Justine Clark

A few months ago I won tickets to the Justine Clark concert.  The tickets have been on our fridge and we have been waiting with great anticipation for the big day.  Wednesday was that day.  We dropped Eli off for a day with Nan and headed for Brisbane.  

I don't go to Brisbane very often but I sort of know my way around - so when we found the right street I was pretty happy about that - found the theatre and the closest car park.  Now the excitement started.  Our car hit the 'your too high' bar as we drove into the car park so we had to back out onto a busy street.  As we backed out, hitting the bar again, the chain holding the bar broke.  Fortunately there was an extremely friendly worker right there who held the bar for us to get out, also checked for traffic as we reversed back onto the street and gave me directions to a higher car park!!  

With that excitement over we headed for our planned excitement THE CONCERT.

 

Justine was amazing and lived up to our my expectations. 

 How cool is that dress - apparently it's her music book dress!!

 We had such a great time and the boys are still talking about it.  

 Particularly this guy - the gobblebook. He likes books but not reading them - eating them.  Justine had to teach him what to do with books.

After the concert Jai wanted to go the ferris wheel (The Wheel of Brisbane) we'd seen on the way in.  I decided that was a great idea because we get near these sort of things so rarely.  I am wondering if they actually enjoyed this more than the concert!!

We had such a fun day that I hope is going to become a great memory for our boys!!!

Happy Monday

We went camping on the weekend and had a great time catching up with old friends we haven't seen for years.  Our boys had fun making new friends with the other kids there.

This morning we went for a walk straight after breakfast.  It was a wonderful start to our day.  I left the dishes in the sink, washing all over the floor in the laundry and ignored it.  We walked slowly and found all sort of fun things and chatted along the way.  These flowers on a tree right near our house.  They were so pretty we picked some for our hanging bottle vases.

Terrific Two!!

Our youngest had his second birthday today.

 He was much more interested in the bottle of balloons than the new duplo!!

 We made 'Frank' the header for the cake - he loves riding on 'Frank' with dad.

This kid is so special - he brings so much joy to our family.

Spring Bonfire

This past weekend we started an annual tradition.  The SPRING BONFIRE.  We gathered with a bunch of friends to celebrate the arrival of spring.

We started off the event by throwing some old winter socks into the fire to say Good-bye winter and HELLO Spring.  The warmth of the fire was wonderful because the weather forgot that it was spring and put on a nice minus 2 degrees C for us.

Some families camped out over night and enjoyed a relaxed Father's Day breakfast and morning together.

What a wonderful weekend with family and good friends!

Weekend Fun

I know it is Wednesday and normally we would be thinking about the coming weekend, not the past one but I have to show you some highlights of our last weekend.

We had a great time camping - enjoying the nature around, trying to build dams in the creek and building rock towers, but mostly spending time with family.

Daddycation:

- like a vacation except instead of going somewhere different, 

we stay home and mum is away and we do things that are different.

My family had a Daddycation this weekend and this is what I've heard happened.

- a trip to town for new sandpit sand, special morning tea and a long play in the park

- filling the wheel barrow with sand, riding on top and getting tipped into the sand pit

- picking up new tyres for the quad bike from town, fitting them and then taking it for a test drive with all the boys aboard

- french toast, bacon and maple syrup for breakfast

- cooking jumbles

- visiting friends in town for a play

- lots of wrestling 

- dinner with grand parents which always means special desserts

- lego play with dad

- tennis with dad

It sounds like they had so much fun, I'm almost sad I missed out.   But then I remember that I was at the Novotel, Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast being completely refreshed with over 100 other homeschooling mums.  No, I didn't miss out at all.

Celebrating

Our big boy turned five last week.  We enjoyed a quiet birthday with all our family traditions (there seems to be more each year!) Then on the weekend we celebrated with brunch at the local woolshed, where they even got him up on stage to sing happy birthday to him.  We went there last year for his birthday and he requested that we go again.  Perhaps another tradition??  It is a wonderful relaxed atmosphere with lots of family and of course a special cake.

Outside Time

Here is some of the things that happened outside this week - moments I want to remember.

Happy Easter

Here are some of the things our family did to celebrate Easter and started some new traditions.

On Friday morning we built a hill and made crosses and Jesus and the robbers.

 Friday night we wrapped Jesus and put him in the tomb and put the big rock in place.

Sunday morning when the boys got up, the tomb only had the cloth inside - Jesus is risen.

Then we did an Easter egg treasure hunt!

Each 'egg' had a part of the resurrection story and the clue to find the next part of the story.

Our story ended with this!  So we all had eggs before breakfast.

I asked Isaiah what was in his egg (expecting him to say nothing so we could talk about how the tomb was empty too) but he comes out with 'A new life'.  

I was happy with the mix of chocolate and the real reason for Easter that we managed to establish in our house.  Did you do anything special with your family this Easter? How do you mix chocolate and Jesus in your house??
