Memorable Moments - Isaiah

Yesterday Jai dropped a toy on my toe while we were playing outside,
(this is not the memorable bit).

Isaiah was playing nearby but ran off not long after this happened.
I didn't think anything of this.
I assumed he was just going off to play somewhere else.

A few minutes later he runs back with a cold drink from the fridge and says,
'Here you go mum, something cold to put on your sore toe.
That will make it feel better.'

I was super impressed - he is starting to think of others more and is learning to care and be kind.
When I had finished 'cooling' my toe, he even went and put it back in the fridge for me.

on this day ...

Scott was working at El Questro - about 2hrs drive away

I had breakfast at a beautiful, water side resturant with friends from chuch,
I went swimming in the afternoon with a good friend,
I went to our special friends house to drop off our big boy,
Thankfully, this friend insisted on coming with me and then

Jairus joined our family - Scott just made it back in time!!

Now it is impossible to imagine life without this cheeky two year old.  What joy he brings to our family.

Travelling Art/Drawing Kit

It was my nephews birthday yesterday and I wanted to give him something useful and practical that wasn't just another toy to clutter their house.  Here's what I came up with.

It is a simple case that contains pencils and a drawing book and as he gets older it can be changed to pencil and a writing book.  Something to grab when there are long waits at doctors or trips in the car or even just every day use.  I used a few different ideas I found on other blogs but mostly just enjoyed spending time by myself thinking about how to make it work.  It was lovely to have all my boys outside helping Dad while I got to sew.

Summer Garden Lessons

  • Snake beans are really hardy and produce well- we will be planting them again next year.
  • Floods slow down/stop growth - my egg plants are really really late - may not get anything from them
  • Pumpkins take up too much space - plant them in the paddock next year
  • I need to plant more corn, more regularly - the little bit we had was so yummy
  • Rosellas are patient plants - that is I need patience because you don't see any sign of fruit for about 6 months
  • It helps to have play things for the kids to do - when they get sick of helping in the garden they can go off to the mud kitchen and I can still get gardening done
  • Don't plant too many tomatoes - I can never keep up and end up with lots on the ground

This Week

We have been home for a few days now - how nice it was to come home.  Holidays are good but home is just that - HOME.  This week has been a very slow week because we brought a bug home with us and it is slowly working its way through the whole family.   Not much 'extra' has happened this week - just the essential things like getting food on the table and washing.

Saying that we did have something rather exciting happen Wednesday morning.

We had some people come from Brisbane to learn about the effects of flooding on farming. They had a few other places to go as well and apparently a helicopter was the best method of transport.  For us is just meant a fun morning watching it land and then exploring how is works.  The pilot was so friendly and really happy to explain things to them and let them climb in and touch it.
